Bales-Gitlin Band in Concert

The Bales-Gitlin Band has been one of Connecticut’s top society/dance bands for over four decades.

Ginny Bales and Jay Gitlin started a band together the week after their wedding in 1978. The Bales-Gitlin Band has been one of Connecticut’s top society/dance bands for over four decades and has performed for thousands of events, including over 2000 weddings, numerous college reunions, and 17 Yale Commencement Balls. Ginny has opened for Bonnie Raitt, and Jay is a History Professor at Yale when not playing keyboard. At their concert on July 19, they will be joined by Dave Daddario on bass, drummer Robert D’Angelo, Joe Meo playing a variety of reed instruments, and special guest Mel Jackson on flute.

The concert, titled “A Musical Tribute to Multi-Cultural Hartford – celebrating Italian, Polish, Irish, Jewish, Latinx and Afro-American music,” will be just that – a tribute to all the many ethnicities that make up the great city of Hartford. Guest flutist Mel Jackson, a long-time Hartford resident, has played with the Hartford band People of Goodwill for over three decades.

    (Raindate July 20)

All concerts are FREE and take place on the John G. Martin Foundation Stage, located on the Helen S Kaman Rose Garden Lawn.
