Endowment Giving

The Elizabeth Park Conservancy welcomes gifts earmarked as endowment gifts and will invest the gifts to preserve and grow the principal of the gift for the future needs of Elizabeth Park. An endowed gift will ensure that future generations will enjoy Elizabeth Park as much as you enjoy it today.

The Elizabeth Park Conservancy also maintains a fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving (HFPG) to which any donor may contribute. The Conservancy cannot access the principal of this fund, but receives annual income distributions that the Conservancy applies to the expenses of maintaining Elizabeth Park.

To donate to the endowment, please contact Christine Doty, President & CEO of the Elizabeth Park Conservancy at 860-231-9443 ext. 102. Contributions to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving can be made through their website, or by calling the HFPG at 860-548-1888.

Planned Giving and the Elizabeth Park Legacy Society

By including the Conservancy in your estate plans, you give a gift that ensures future generations will enjoy the splendor of Elizabeth Park. You will be following in the footsteps of other generous donors who provided for Elizabeth Park in the past, including:

  • Charles Pond, who in his will left his property to the City of Hartford for a public park in the name of his wife, Elizabeth;

  •  Ethel F. Donaghue, who lived in the neighborhood of Elizabeth Park and provided a trust in her estate plan that would fund capital improvements in Elizabeth Park; and

  •  Elizabeth Stedman, a neighbor of and volunteer in the Park who provided in her will for a fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving that supports in perpetuity the upkeep, maintenance and improvement of Elizabeth Park.

Remembering the Elizabeth Park Conservancy in your will or estate plan is the best way to ensure that the Elizabeth Park you enjoy today will be here for future generations. The Elizabeth Park Conservancy has provided for the Park for more than 40 years, and we intend to continue to care for the Park well into the future. Your legacy gift to the Conservancy will help us continue the work of keeping the Park beautiful well into the future.

Bequest

The simplest way to make a planned gift is to provide a bequest in your will. You might consider the following language:

“I give and bequeath to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization with offices at 1561 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117, $________, to be used by the Elizabeth Park Conservancy at the discretion of the Conservancy’s Board of Directors for the care or improvement of Elizabeth Park.“

Other

There are other ways to remember the Conservancy in your estate plan. One example might be a gift of retirement assets by designating the Elizabeth Park Conservancy as a beneficiary of an IRA, 401k, 403b, pension or other tax-deferred plan.

Another example might be to name the Elizabeth Park Conservancy as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

A Charitable Gift Annuity, which provides payments for the life of the donor, is available through the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, because the Elizabeth Park Conservancy maintains a fund at the Foundation. For this or other planned giving ideas, donors are encouraged to consult their attorneys and to contact the Elizabeth Park Conservancy: Christine Doty, President & CEO, 860-231-9443 ext 102 or cdoty@elizabethparkct.org.

Elizabeth Park Legacy Society

The Elizabeth Park Legacy Society recognizes those donors who have made plans to leave a future gift to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy—through their will or estate plan—that will benefit Elizabeth Park in perpetuity. The Elizabeth Park Conservancy will recognize members of the Elizabeth Park Legacy Society (unless the donor prefers anonymity), and will invite you to our Annual Meeting and other special events.

Please let us know, using our return card, if you have provided for a future gift to the Elizabeth Park Conservancy in your will or estate plan.
